I really love the way this flower looks on the back side. The photo below was taken before I started the granny square. You can see the anchor stitches on the back in red that you crochet the granny square to. I love this construction and think it would work for many other 3d elements on top of granny squares.

This flower is similar to #12 from this book, but I blocked out the petals since there aren't as many of them. I've been making filler blocks for this blanket too so I've been busy busy. The finished 25 squares will be put together with the filler blocks to make a queen sized blanket.

The flowers like this with the petals made of rows take so much more time to make and they require a good blocking before they shape up to be a beautiful flower.
