Sad Day

So I was planning on writing about the untimely death of my ipod this afternoon, until I started listening to NPR today. Now it seems stupid to be sad over an inanimate object's dead hard drive when real people have innocently died at the hands of someone else. May God's presence be with those who are suffering and those who are mourning the loss of loved ones.

San Antonio - Part 2

Now that I've had a little time to recover I can post a couple more pics and tell you about my favorite parts of the trip. The parts where I found stuff to buy. haha

We walked along the river walk on Saturday and ended up going to River center mall. I took a gander at the mall directory to look for a Torrid. It was a pretty small mall and they didn't have one, but they DID have a Sanrio! I was so stinkin' excited. We only had about twenty minutes for me to find it, shop, and get back to the river walk to meet my mom's friends for lunch. I turned in to the fastest speed walker ever! I found it and bought quite a few things. The only really awesome thing being an ice tray. hehe. I also found out that they had a new frog in the picture named Pickles so I bought a notepad with him on it. Then, the girl working there told me that Kerroppi was coming out of retirement in May!!! He's my favorite character. I'm so happy about this!

After dinner and some more walking around the river walk, we decided to go back to the hotel. On the way back I asked my mom if we had time to find the antique store that I saw on the cab ride to the hotel. She said we had about 45 minutes until we had to call a cab back to the airport. So again, I was off. It was really quite funny. We made it there (the Alamo Antique Mall) within 10 minutes or so. It was three floors and I hardly had enough time. Its a good thing that they are way overpriced and booth rented or I wouldn't have left San Antonio. I seriously found a james avery bracelet with four charms (new but a little tarnished) Selling for $150. You could have bought it brand new for less geez. AND... I couldn't find a single button for sale anywhere! I'm sure if I did find a jar of buttons they would have been new and $20 bucks. Oh well. On to the good stuff. I did find an awesome apron and I did pay too much for it considering that the kind of places I normally buy my aprons sell them for about $5.

But this apron was super unique and I really really liked it. So I did shell out the $19.50 that they had on the price tag. I wouldn't have done it if I were in Oklahoma. All of my rules go out of the window when I'm out of the state. I'll buy the most expensive stuff and never think twice about it on vacation. I bought a Vera Bradley bag from the Pentagon a few years ago, seriously I'm crazy.

Tonight I had a craving for doughnuts. When I get this way there's really nothing I can do until I tame the beast. So I donned my apron and made these lovelies.

Doughnuts all around at work tomorrow! I only ate two, I don't completely give in to my cravings ;). I used the Italian doughnut recipe on food network by Giada De Laurentiis. They turned out really really yummy. I even made dark chocolate ganache for them. I was quite proud of myself. hehe. We just got in the Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World book at work. I'm seeing quite a few cravings coming into play soon.

San Antonio in 24 hours

We're home! It was a great trip and I feel as though I have been in airports for about the same time as I was in San Antonio. If I added up the time I'm sure it would be close. Sad... Mom got her excellence award last night at a fancy banquet with a four course meal that was amazing! My mom works for a huge company and only 5% of employees get this award, so she's pretty special. This also made it where we didn't know anyone there. We sat with some really great people and the wine and liquor was free flowing, so it was fun. I've made an album on my flickr if you would like to see a couple of pictures. I'll be adding some more tomorrow (I found a Sanrio store so I have hello kitty swag to show!).

One craft related picture before I go...

I finished one of my socks! This is the sucker that has been on the needles for so long. I finished it in the airport Friday morning and took this picture while waiting to board the plane. I started the second one right after and didn't knit on it anymore the rest of the trip (no room, no time, etc.). Hopefully I will finish the second one soon.

Oh and sorry I look pissed in the picture below. haha I was so tired and didn't want to take a pic, but I wanted to show off my sweater. Hence the face. Ok I'm going to bed now.

FO Wicked!

Its a tiny bit heavy, but I expected it to be. I'm wearing it today so we'll see how it goes. I really really like it a lot! There are a few things I would have done differently now that I know how contruction of a top down sweater works and how crazy my body is. I should have started with a smaller size up top. There's some bunching at the shoulders because of this. I'm pretty petite up top. Then the love handles come in haha. I should have increased a little more on the side. I'm just being picky though it really fits pretty awesomely for my first sweater. I'm definitely proud of it!

I also balled or caked up the yarn that I dyed.

I'm getting on a plane for San Antonio in a couple of hours. I guess I should go now. I'll put up pics of the trip tomorrow.

A little more easter stuff

I'm getting so close to finishing Wicked. Woot! I've finished the stockinette and I'm on the pocket now. Its certainly downhill from here. It even fits... awesome!

I dyed some more yarn this weekend. I was inspired by the Robin Eggs candy that my dad loves, but I do not.

I had some knitpicks bare donegal tweed that was just screaming speckled eggs. So I came up with this.

I painted it this time and I used kool aid for the purple, mauve and teal wiltons for the other colors. I still have some perfecting to do on my technique but I think its great for my 2nd time. I couldn't mush the dye into all the white places and mix the colors together well, because I still am without gloves. I'll have to go buy some soon. This week Hobby Lobby's online coupon is for 40% off all Wilton supplies. Yay! More dye for me. And I'm sure my mother will appreciate me not using her icing dye anymore. haha.

I think I found an apartment to move in to. I can't put any money down until the 20th when we know if the house is officially sold yet. So lets hope they still have some one bedrooms available by then. The manager acted like it wouldn't be a problem so I'm hoping it won't be.

Bri brought me back Hello Kitty swag (and pink chopsticks with nipple bearing geisha, hehe) from her honeymoon in NYC. Don't I have the greatest friend?!

Ok I have to go, the people buying our house are having appraisals done tomorrow so I need to clean my room.

Attack of the UFOs

I know three UFOs for some knitters is nothing... just merely a starting place. For me it cries disaster. I usually try to stay with one project through fruition before starting another, because I know my track record. Ok I have to come out and say it, I have problems not finishing what I start. Woosh that feels good to admit. And while this problem hasn't reared its ugly head in quite a while, I think it may soon. Since I have three UFOs, I have decided to abandon my one project at a time rule and have been knitting on all three this week. Its working! Here's how I've divided them (and I've provided pictures of my progress so far).

Wicked

This is mindless stockinette in the round or "stockinette hell" as Miss Violet would say. I work on this when my mind and body can't take anything else. Sadly that has been a frequent occurrence. Its also what I work on when someone's talking to me or when I'm at the movies (I got a lot done on this one the other night).

Swallowtail Shawl

I'm supposed to have this one done by next Friday. Its been giving me fits though. Its an easy lace pattern I don't know what my problem is, but I've had to rip out rows quite often because of some problem that I can't figure out. I've also realized that I think I've messed up when I haven't because I'm not looking at the pattern. Therefore this is only knit on at home with the chart in front of me so I don't sabotage myself. I can't really pay attention to anything but this. Its pretty selfish don't you think?

Yarn over cable socks

I swear I have first sock syndrome. The first one always takes me forever and I'll whip the second one out in a few days. I don't know why I do this, but it has happened with every pair so far. I've finally started the cuff on my first sock (I'm kind of cheating and making them shorter, because it is spring after all, maybe I'll finish them before its over). I've decided this is my bedroom knitting. I'm ready for these to be finished. I'm embarrassed at how long they've been on the needles.
