Random things about moi

So I’ve been tagged by a million people on Facebook to do this thing, so here! Tag, you’re it if you haven’t done this yet. THE only reason I’m doing this is because I would rather procrastinate than read for grad school.
1.    My first crafting memory is about lacing cards. I loved those things growing up. Those led to plastic canvas, which led to cross stitch, which led to everything else I do.
2.    I could learn how to crochet until I learned how to knit. It was impossible until then. I’m sure it had something to do with learning how to read knitted fabric and translating that to crochet and where to stick the hook.
3.    My dad bought me a pellet gun for Christmas when I was 10. I thought it was a keyboard. I was a little bummed.
4.    My dad still has the gun.
5.    I have THE cutest tiny little dog on the planet.
6.    I’m always afraid said tiny little dog will get taken away by a big bird, or the stray cat that stalks her constantly.
7.    Half of my best friends are gay men. They are lovely and always make me feel better about myself.
8.    I think work is a great place to meet significant others…I’m dating someone that works in my building.
9.    He is super hot and treats me like a princess.
10.    I ran a four-wheeler into a fence when I was 13.
11.    My dad still won’t let me drive a four-wheeler.
12.    I make big purchases (car, house, furniture) without too much decision time.
13.    I can’t drive a standard.
14.    I played handbells for years and still miss it.
15.    I like Apple products. My MacBook is my bestest friend.
16.    I eat a lot of butter… A LOT! I’m like Paula Dean ya’ll.
17.    I LOVE JOSS WHEDON!!! I would have his babies if given the chance.
18.    Pink is my favorite color.
19.    I am obsessed with Hello Kitty.
20.    I think cupcakes should be a food group.
21.    I really like Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus
22.    Yes, I am an 8 year old at heart. Thanks for asking.
23.    I bought a house this past year.
24.    I like to call it a mecca of cuteness.
25.    I want a lot of tattoos, but still haven’t gotten one.

Ok, now I'm going to drink cheap strawberry champagne and watch Repo: A Genetic Opera. Have a good evening everyone.

my crafty family

I'm not sure if I have mentioned how crafty my whole family is. I know I've told you all about my mom and her master seamstress skills. She was recently elected the president of her local quilting guild. W00T! My dad is a true renaissance man. He can do anything, and I'm not just saying that because he's my daddy. As far as I can remember anything I needed he was able to make. I had the greatest school projects because he would help me build the most awesome things.

Moving forward, I had been sending my mom random links to things I wanted for my house for Christmas and my birthday. I desperately needed a pot rack so I sent her this link she said she would see what she could do. I knew my dad did iron work and thought he could make it for me. He said that it would be awhile because he would have to order the components to weld. Christmas came around and I didn't get a pot rack. I was a little bummed. But I figured he would get around to it at some point. Truthfully, I kind of forgot about it until he brought it into my house today...

Is it not a perfect reproduction? And I can guarantee this thing is going to be way higher quality than the one they could have purchased. And my dad made it entirely by hand. He bent the curly parts and the S hooks by hand. No, they aren't perfect but that is what craft is all about and I LOVE IT!

I also sent my mom a link to the Hensvik bookcases from IKEA. We were all set to buy two of them for me for Christmas and found out that IKEA has a minimum carrier and handling fee of $265 for Oklahoma. We briefly talked about driving to Dallas to pick them up, then my mom suggested we get my uncle to build them for us. My uncle is really great at wood work. He has built many well crafted items for my parents so I knew he could do what I wanted.

At the family Christmas gathering I told him what i wanted and showed him pictures. I told him it would be awesome if he could make a matching headboard as well. I drew a picture of what I wanted it to look at. A few weeks later he came over for some measurements and scaled up the drawings. Today he brought it all over and installed it.

We won't discuss how many holes were put in my walls from trying to find studs (yes there was even a stud finder involved) and miss measuring. My dad is the cowboy on the left, if anyone wanted to know.

My uncle was really worried about the arches that I wanted. He had never done anything like that. He said it took forever for him to figure out how to do them, but I think he did a great job. What do you think?

Don't you love how Bella hopped on the bed as soon as I made it to take this picture? She's such a photo whore!

 I'm so ready to unpack books tonight! I need to go pick up some kind of window treatment as well. I'm thinking balloon shade, but that might be too many conflicting curves. Any suggestions?

Birthday fun!

I'm going to date this post January 22nd because it should have been written then. I've been a little preoccupied lately. I had the greatest 26th birthday! My boyfriend took me to Trattoria il Centro for my birthday dinner. I enjoyed everything we ate there and they brought us shots of limoncello for my birthday.

The next day, my actual birthday, we went to RedPin for lunch with some friends and then went to see Twilight (I had already seen it but it was my birthday so we saw it again). It was such a beautiful day outside!!!!

Then to make the day even better, we had Hello Kitty cupcakes!

Why why why ?!?

Why is it that MAC teams up with Hello Kitty at the time in my life when I absolutely cannot make frivolous purchases?

For anyone else that cares, it launches on February 10th.

I'm going to go cry now.

Wants this!!!

I wish I would have seen this before it was sold out the day after it was released :( 

It would make a perfect birthday gift for little ole me. haha
