I'm almost finished with my last semester of school... ever. Then I will be fully equipped with my card carrying susher degree.  
Until then, I'm probably not going to be posting anything. I have too many young adult books to read and final papers to write. But I do have a lot of things to share when I'm able to return:Pictures of our Louisiana trip and more importantly pictures of the fun things I bought on said trip, Wedding wednesday topics (I've figured out the bridesmaid dress dilemma), and exciting plans for our trip to Austin for Renegade. Easter Stuffies!

I made Sheldon's nieces these dolls for Easter because I'm hoping to get voted best aunt ever.

I used the Kitschy Digitals Olivia doll embroidery pattern for the doll. And guess what, you can make one too!

The pattern comes with two sizes of transfers. I used the bigger one for these dolls, but I think the smaller ones would be super cute too. The steps to making the doll are easy:

1. Using the transfer method of your choice (check out this tutorial), transfer the pattern to the fabric you're going to embroider on (I used an old white sheet). You also want to transfer the hat and dress to a different fabric. Place them close together so you don't waste materials.
2. Iron some fusible webbing to the back of the hat and dress and then cut out the hat and dress. Peel off the back and iron them onto the pattern you have transferred to be embroidered.
3. I used a big hoop so I didn't have the hoop go over the fused fabric. Using any stitch of choice, embroider around the fused pieces first so you don't constantly hit the edges and accidentally pull them up.

   

4. Finish stitching the doll and sew tiny buttons on the dress if you like.
5. To make the doll, i used a ruler and freely traced around the patter about 1 inch around. (this line is the sewing line) Then added a half inch seam allowance to that (this line is the cutting line). I pinned my pattern to the top of the embroidered part and added the dress fabric for the doll back and cut it all out.
6. With right sides together, I stitched on the sewing line that I drew and left a space about two inches wide open at the bottom along one side of the legs.
7. Clip the seams around the doll because it has a lot of curved edges.
8. Turn inside out and stuff with polyfil, or something more organic if you have it.
9. Stitch up the opening and you are finished!

I think I won the best aunt award :)

Wedding Wednesday - wedding party

I have always known that I wanted an unconventional wedding party for my side of the wedding. My bestest friend in the entire world is a guy. I have known for years that John would be my man of honor. I also have a really close girl friend, Bri, who always has my back and therefore she is my matron of honor even if that sounds so old and doughty. And I have the greatest boifriend a girl could have in my bridesman, Levi. With two guys and a gal on my side, I knew it would be difficult to figure out what to do on the grooms side if he only wanted guys in his party. Thankfully, I'm marrying Sheldon who just happens to have two brothers and a sister. Perfect! He also has two adorable nieces who will make the cutest flower girls ever. Everything just fell into place.

I found the girls dresses at Ross the other night. They are cute yellow ruffly cotton numbers that are perfect for an outdoor wedding.

I would love for all the guys to wear light gray pin-striped pants and vests (mainly because Sheldon is so foxy in his), but this could pose a problem with all of the different sizes we have. I also like the mis-matched idea of just having them come in lighter suits or even sweater vests. Sheldon is the king of the sweater vest and wears them all the time so that matches his style perfectly.

This dress is what made me want to include yellow into my wedding. I love it! And sorry but this is one of those pictures that I can't find the source for. I'm trying to decide if I want a yellow dress for the two women in my wedding or if I want to go for the turquoise color. Have I mentioned that our colors are yellow, turquoise and pink? I'll know what I want when I see them, but I am currently at a complete loss on what I should ask them to wear. I love the idea of vintage dresses too, but sizing makes that out of the question. Here are two dresses I'm going gaga over, but for one of various reasons (price, size, color) we can't use.

So yeah... I need help in this area... any and all suggestions are appreciated. I have a feeling that we'll have to do two different dresses unless I want to bite the bullet and a) make them myself or b) go to a bridal store (gag!).
