Are you ready to learn your second stitch? If you have successfully made your chain and have figured out where you are going to put your hook, I believe you are. The first stitch I'm going to teach you is the single crochet stitch. This is the shortest stitch of the five we'll learn this week and we'll learn them in height order. Here's what you can expect from each stitch lesson:
- Each lesson will have a graphic denoting the stitch's abbreviation and the UK terminology. We'll go into all of this further when we start talking about reading patterns, but I think it's important to share this general information with the stitch.
- The stitch lessons are mainly video tutorials and I'm trying to keep them all at about 15-20 minutes. Some are shorter and some are longer. The videos are made in a way that assumes you will be stitching along while you're watching and practicing your stitching then pausing the video until you catch up with me. This first video will explain what we're doing with each lesson and why I had to make a chain 21 stitches long for this lesson.
- Each stitch lesson has a 2nd video that goes into how to "read" the fabric created by that stitch. This is a wonderful skill to have and something you usually figure out on your own after you've been crocheting for awhile, but I like to be thorough and wanted to teach you how to do it from the beginning. :)
I didn't make this super clear in the video, but when you are stitching into the "vs" on the single crochet rows make sure you're just stitching under the two sides of the v. This will be more important as we go, but just like we went under the two sides of the v on the chain, you'll do that for each row of single crochet.
