Flow Magazine

I would like to introduce you to my new favorite magazine - Flow Magazine. 

I guess I should begin at the beginning. I was interviewed to be in a magazine! (holy crap right?!) The last issue of Flow had a big section devoted to 365 projects and my Granny a Day project must have caught their eye. I was contacted by a freelance writer who was doing the story and have a nice little mention (and quote) in the magazine. Did I mention the magazine is in Dutch? haha Sheldon thought it was really funny when he saw the quote and said, "oh really, you said that? I didn't know you knew Dutch."

Anyway, lets get back to why this is really my new favorite magazine... This is my new favorite magazine because it is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Seriously, the thought that went into designing this thing is amazing -- some of the pages are normal glossy pages, some are wonderfully thick kraft paper which is very aesthetically pleasing. 

The artwork is brilliant throughout. 

This issue had a huge spread of pages about Dutch Illustrator Fiep Westendorp and I got lost in the pages about her.

In the back were these really cute postcards you can tear out and use and... a little to-do notebook! It's just too cute :)

Sadly, there is a big drawback. I suppose no matter how beautiful a magazine is, I can't justify a subscription to it if I don't know the language. I guess I just need to learn Dutch!

I've noticed in the past few months how there are these really amazing magazines coming out of other countries that are beautiful and full of crafty details. (Mollie Makes anyone?) We all know how bad the US magazine and newspaper industry is doing. Is it not the same in other countries? I guess these magazines are becoming more aesthetically pleasing to make their place in this world of online media. I'll admit I'd rather read a normal old glossy magazine online than have it clutter my house. Then again, there's just something about getting a new magazine and holding it and tearing out pages for inspiration boards. It must be the crafter (and a little bit of the hoarder) in me that needs print publications. 

A Granny A Day - Week 28

I haven't actually finished the blog posts for all of these this week so I'll update the image map as soon as I do. I'm so behind on blogging the granny a day project because I was in a rut and needed to work on some other crafty things. I think it's just because I've reached the half-way point of my 365 project. I can't stop, but it's getting harder to find the motivation to keep going. I think this is common for 365 projects. I'm still making my granny a day, but I'm finding it harder to be strict on myself about blogging it each day. I can't be...That's like 2 hours each day that I can't do anything else but crochet, block, photo, edit, and blog granny squares. So I've been saving up my squares and photographing them all once or twice a week when I know I'll have good lighting. It is just what I need right now and it's working for the most part. 

Speaking of other crafty things, Remember my embroidered icons from last week? They have been so popular, that I decided to make more for an abundance of social networking sites. Like 20 more to be exact. I started working on them this morning and they are super cute! There are even ones for pinterest, ravelry, and bloglovin'. And... I'm going to share all of them with you so you can put them on your blogs! I'm not sure how long it will take me. I got about 8 of them watercolored today while I had a little crafty get-together with my friends Amy and Jemellia and I am going to try to do a few more each night this week. I'm sooo excited about these and am so glad that so many of you loved them. I think I have all the sites covered (there's even one for Myspace... does anyone still use Myspace?), but if you have any special requests for specific social networking sites let me know in the comments. I won't be making any other sidebar items at this time, but may take some commissions on after I finish with this project.

I've started a new color palette and I'm really loving it! I'm still working on putting one of my blankets together. It will probably take me a few more weeks.

These granny round up posts will be posted on Sundays now. Since I took a little break from them, my week starts on Mondays now and putting these together for Sunday is so much easier than getting it ready for a Friday. 

Week 25 had some really pretty squares. I think the first one 169/365 is my favorite right now. It's just very unique looking. Week 26 was potholder week. I really enjoyed working on something that had immediate gratification. I needed that. Now I'm ready to start a new color palette and a new blanket tomorrow.

Another great week of really pretty granny squares! I'm almost done with this color scheme so I guess I need to start figuring out what I want to do next. I'm thinking a week of potholders is going to happen sometime soon. I have too many in my queue to not count some of those as my granny squares.

Oh my goodness! I seriously can't believe it's been 4 weeks since I've shared my granny squares over here. My only excuse is that Photoshop and I couldn't be friends while I was sick.

I counted yesterday and the color palette for the blanket I started this project with is almost finished. I have 12 more squares to make and then I'll join them and have another blanket (this will be the 4th if you're wanting to keep track). This blanket is the first and probably only blanket I'll be keeping from this project. It's for our bed and it will remind me of this year long journey which I will hopefully think fondly of in the future. ;)

I didn't want to double post everything so click on through to the posts on the Granny A Day blog. These were really fun sqaures to make even though they were time consuming. And I learned two new joining techniques while I worked on them! Very exciting stuff.

I've finished two more blankets!! I'll share photos next week. I am really really proud of these two baby blankets made from the May squares. They are super cute! I used two new joining methods too and they were really easy. I am all for learning as many joining-as-you-go methods as I can. I hate sewing blankets together.

Friday is seriously my favorite day of the week! It's always slow at work so I can catch up on big projects while the phone isn't ringing. Today there's only one other person in the office so I'm listening to music a little louder than I normally would be able to. I'm jamming out to Lady Gaga and doing a lot of desk dancing. I still have mixed feelings about her new album, but I like the 80s vibe that plays throughout the songs. Right now, my favorite song from it is Americano. Have a listen.
