My "go to" face -- with vlog and special guest!

When my friend Staci was in town a few weeks ago, we decided we should do a vlog together about make-up since she has a YouTube make-up channel. Our plans were to do three vlogs (which we mention in the video) but we only ended up doing one. We'll probably do these again when we see each other. She lives in a different state but we try to get together as often as possible.  So here we go... our "go to" faces! Make sure to go visit Staci's channel and give her some love!

Here are photos and links of what I use. Please excuse the state of my brushes. They are in dire need of a good cleaning.

Face Soap: Clinique Liquid Facial Soap mild
Moisturizer: Clinique dramatically different Moisturizing Lotion or Clinique Moisture Surge
Blemish Treatment: e.l.f. Zit Zapper
Skin Primer: Arbonne Makeup Primer
Eye Primer: Urban Decay Primer Potion the original formula
Lip Primer: MAC Prep & Prime Lip 

Foundation: Clinique Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer  - I use Shade 1
Setting Powder: e.l.f. High Definition Powder 
Concealer: MAC select cover-up in NW15 
Foundation brush was from coastal scents but they don't have the pink brushes anymore. :(

Contour Color: MAC Sculpting Powder in Bone Beige (this is only available at MAC Pro Stores)
Blush: MAC powder blush in Peaches 
Highlight: A Pixi blush/highlight duo I got on clearance at Target.
Brushes: Top is used for contour. It's a  Master's Touch paint brush #430 Round Mop from Hobby Lobby.
Middle is for blush. It's a duo-fiber from coastal scents. 
Bottom is what I use for highlights. It's a 1" Loew-Cornell Maxine's Mop #270 

Eye-shadows: MAC Eyeshadows in Brule, Retrospeck (the top two in the quad), Cork, and Naked Lunch. 
Eyeliner: MAC Pro Creme Liner in Black (only available at MAC Pro Stores) or Almay liquid Eyeliner in black (love this one! I have used it for years) 
Brows: MAC Eye Brows in Lingering 
Mascara: MAC Opulash
Brushes from top to bottom:
    Blending Brush - another discontinued pink coastal scents brush
    Brush for highlight color - Loew-Cornell 1/2" Maxine's Mop 
    Brush for Lid Color and usually crease - Lowe-Cornell 3/8" Maxine's Mop
    Pencil brush for small details and sometimes crease - MAC 219    Angle brush for eyeliner when I use the MAC eyeliner - MAC 263 

During the day I wear something sheer. It's usually the Clinique Almost Lipstick in black honey, but I'm almost out and have to use a brush with it so I've been carrying the Tarte lipsurgence lip tint in Moody with me. It's pretty much the same color as black honey.

For night I always wear red. I have a ton of red lipsticks but MAC Ruby Woo is my favorite because it is soo matte it doesn't budge. I even wore it in my wedding. I always wear it over the MAC lip pencil in Spice to tone it down a notch and make it more natural looking. 

Now remember this is my "go to" face, so I do it all the time and it only takes me about 10 minutes to do it all. If I'm in a hurry I just do the tinted moisturizer, mascara, blush, and lipstick.

My biggest question is: How do you get the time to have such an amazing blog, and do a Granny a Day AND do other things too?!!

I also have a photo question - you quite often put together a number of photos in one piece so that they are almost like a jigsaw or a treasury. How do you do that?

I love your blog - I've been following for a few months now and there's always something I'm interested in. And thank you for linking to all the crochet patterns! I'm doing my own version of granny squares, although it's more like A Granny A Week with me, and it's really useful know there is somewhere I can find lots of patterns easily! Thank you.

We have had my wonderful friend Staci and her husband staying with us this weekend so there was no time for posting on Friday. So you get these today. I think I have a full week of posts planned out too! I've just got to get busy tonight. Oh and Staci and I did a vlog together while she was here. I'm excited to share that with you guys! On all of these, I personally think their earlier videos are much better for beginners. They took the time to teach more of the basics back then. Now many of them do a lot of sponsored make-up looks.

I buy a lot of MAC products, but here are some of my favorite inexpensive brands that have really great products as well!

E.L.F Cosmetics - Really cheap, really awesome. I did a post about some of their products here. You can sometimes find this brand at Target, but you can buy everything they have online.
NYX Cosmetics - I'm just starting to use NYX stuff, but their glitter eyeliner is the greatest. You can get NYX at ULTA. 
Coastal Scents - Their duo fiber brushes are really great and waaay cheaper than MAC. Online only.
BH Cosmetics -  They have a big selection of inexpensive palettes and brushes. I haven't ordered from them, but I've been eyeing their 88 matte eyeshadow palette. Online only.

Also, if you're ever wanting to know about a new product before you use it check out beautylish.com. It's like the ravelry of the makeup world. People post reviews, videos, photos, and there are forums. I mainly use it for the reviews, but it's a great site for a one-stop shop for make-up info.

I'm also going to do a couple of blogs about my everyday makeup staples and the brushes I use all the time. I'm excited that you want to know about makeup! Can you tell I love it and can't wait to share?

Ask me anything!

Hey everyone! I've been needing to create a FAQ page for about forever so I thought this would be a good time to do so. Since I'm on vacation I won't be tempted to answer questions right away and can save them for some answer vlogs perhaps and then add them to my FAQ page. What do you think?

Got any burning questions you just have to ask?  I'll answer questions about crafting, blogging, my day job (not that interesting), DIY wedding planning, life as a newlywed, my limited knowledge about fashion, who does my hair, make-up, thrifting, you can even ask Sheldon questions if you want... anything you want to know! Ok anything within reason. You know, nothing too personal or incriminating ;). I'm pretty open, but I have the right to ignore any questions I deem inappropriate. I trust you guys though.

So have fun, ask as many questions as you want and I'll answer them when I get back from Vegas next week.

A letter to my boyfriends

Dearest boys,

Gay pride from the view of uninformed onlookers is seen as a time of lewd debauchery and parades of rainbows, and while this may be the case at times, (we've all had our fair share of drunken rainbow celebrations right?) I wanted to take the time to use this month of gay pride to publicly say how very proud I am to know you and have you in my life.

Knowing each of you has made me a better person. Here are a few things I have learned from our years of friendship:
- Compassion
- How to have an open heart and mind
- Love comes in many forms
- Everyone should celebrate Friendship Friday, Anything Can Happen Saturday, Sunday Funday, and Boozy Monday 
- How to make the best gin punch in the entire world
- A sucky past/childhood doesn't define your future
- A cal king bed can sleep 8 comfortably... 12 uncomfortably
- Walking in heels is an art form that I may never conquer
- What true acceptance really is
- It's ok to have fun and let loose occasionally
- Taking life too seriously just makes you boring
- Being single can be awesome as long as you have awesome friends
- Self confidence
- Every fight can be settled with a walk-off
- Friendsgiving is so much better than Thanksgiving
- Every girl should have a gay best friend (or three!) 

There's so much more you have taught me but I think these sum up our relationships the best.

Not only have I grown, but I've had the pleasure of watching you all grow up as well. I've been there through your time of pretending you were something you were not, your first loves, and your coming out to family and friends. I cried with you when you finally came out to me and told me I'd always be number one on your myspace friends. I was there when you got kicked out of our alma mater and let you move in with me when you had to grow up a little faster than you may have wanted to. I love giving you make-up lessons. I'll always be your big sister who says "maybe that's not the greatest idea, " but loves you even after you do it any way.

You were there for me when I thought no one loved me. You told me I was beautiful when no one else did. You have saved me from many poor fashion decisions (and continue to do so to this day). You send me random texts to tell me you love me. You'll trade me shoes when my heels hurt my feet so bad they start to go numb. You made me feel like a princess long before Sheldon was there to make me feel that way. You always make me laugh and your tweets make me smile. For all these things, I am so glad we are friends family.

I'm sorry for the world we live in, the hatred that you have to put up with, and the mean looks and words that have been thrown your way. I will continue to be your biggest advocate and stand up with you for equality.

 

Having you in (and at) my wedding was the best wedding gift I could have asked for. Knowing these wonderful men who were there with me throughout years of singledom and nights of crying because someone didn't love me as much as I loved him were there with me on the happiest day of my life meant more to me than you will ever know! One day I will return the favor. I'll spend hours in the heat to make your wedding perfect. I'll even make sure the fan tags are all turned one way ;) ... I promise!

 

This may be so very cliche but Cyndi Lauper is the shiz and this song is perfect. And it randomly came on my google music player and I totally started bawling like a little baby and then it made me realize I HAD to write this post. Not only to show you boys how much you mean to me, but to show everyone my true colors as well.

Each and every one of you are beautiful like a rainbow ;) hahaha Ok that was really taking it too far.

A-Z about me

I saw this on Alli's blog yesterday and thought it would beSomething fun for a Saturday morning. I too had a Xanga long ago in '02 (thankfully deleted so don't go looking for it haha far too much baptist college angst for anyone's liking) and her post made me reminisce a little and want to fill out a silly meme.

 
A. Age: 28 -- I actually told someone I was 27 the other day and my dear sweet husband reminded me that I'm actually 28... boo
B. Bed size: Full and yes Dewey sleeps with us. It's awful.
C. Chore that you hate: I hate chores in general but I absolutely loathe doing dishes. So does Sheldon. Not good for our newlywed selves.
D. Dogs: You guys know how I feel about dogs! I love them. I'm partial to small sweet dogs, but Dewey has won my heart as a mid-size dog and my friend Levi has a harlequin Great Dane that is the most beautiful dog I've ever seen. He's sweet sometimes too. ;)
E. Essential start to your day: a shower. If I haven't had a shower, I'm not really awake.
F. Favourite color: Pink -- surprised?
G. Gold or Silver: Always silver for jewelry, but I appreciate gold for its warmth and occasionally try to sneak it in.
H. Height: 5'6"
I. Instruments you play: Now this is kind of tricky for me... I don't play anything currently, but I spent most of my life very musically inclined and I was a music major in college. I have played the following: Piano, guitar, oboe, saxophone, bassoon, flute, many percussion instruments, and handbells, however, if you asked me to sit down and play something right now, I could only play the piano or handbells. I also play a mean rock band guitar and drums ;)

K. Kids: I love kids! I would like one or two of my own one day.

N. Nicknames: For most people, my only nickname is d or craftyminx. My friend John has many nicknames for me though like friend, friendella, skank, best frienemy, and others that probably aren't appropriate for the blog... we love each other... clearly.
O. Overnight hospital stays: Too many to count. I was a sickly child but I haven't been to the hospital since the 6th grade.
P. Pet peeve: bad drivers!! Oh and people who are bad drivers because they are on their cell phones.

S. Siblings: I'm an only child, but I really love having two brother-in-laws and three sister-in-laws. It's a party Beaches!

V. Vegetable you hate: I don't like beets. They taste like dirt. I keep trying them, but I'll never like them.
W. What makes you run late: My husband. We drive to work together and I always have to wait on him.
